Over the past few weeks, I’ve tried out and tested a few products and wanted to share my thoughts on some of the brands and products I liked with you all. My aim is to highlight the fact that no matter what hair challenges you might be facing, there is always a product out there on the market to help you.
Let’s start with the brand Cake Beauty. All of Cake’s products are free from the stuff that doesn’t fit your lifestyle. The brand is all about celebrating the good things in life, plus it’s a female-owned company creating award-winning, innovative products.
I love this because it’s cruelty-free and vegan, and it’s a quality hair product designed to nourish even the most stressed-out locks. When applied to damp hair, this body-boosting styler lifts and plumps for thick and long-lasting volume. It does not weigh down the hair and the silky foam allows for high styles and refined shine. It never gets sticky or stiff, so the blend transforms limp hair into luscious and thick hair without the use of any harsh chemicals. The formula is infused with natural pomegranate, ginseng extracts, and green tea, which allows for more natural volume and more shine. This product makes for an easy blowout for evenings or next-day hair to keep your style full and luscious with volume and movement, which is rare in a product like this.
Oh my god—I was so excited about the first one that I forgot to tell you what to use first. Let’s start at the beginning. I recommend the Big Deal Thickening Volume Shampoo by Cake which contains aloe vera, rice, and soy protein, and no parabens or sulfates. This body-boosting formula wraps each strand in lightweight moisture and super proteins so hair looks fuller and shiner. This gives tons of body and bounce without the use of harsh chemicals. Cake’s products are playfully indulgent, cruelty-free, and vegan, and people have come to love and trust them. Depending on how many days it has been since you last shampooed, I would most likely shampoo twice to get the full benefit of this product.
This volumizing conditioner will plump your strands for thicker-looking hair with hydrating sunflower oil and rice protein. By thickening and hydrating your hair as with the shampoo, each strand will be wrapped in moisture and protein. You will get big body and bounce with no harsh chemicals. I would condition from the mid-shaft to the ends and not include the roots with this lovely conditioner. Use a wide-toothed comb in the shower to make sure you get every strand.
Honey Skin has developed a great reputation for being beneficial to your skin and hair, helping people to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle. The creators use all of their products on themselves, their kids, and pets which is a great claim. They use the rare manuka honey from the North Island of New Zealand in all their products.
This is a great mask for those with blonde, natural gray, highlighted, bleached, or color-treated hair. The purple tint gets rid of brassy, yellow, and orange tones and brightens blonde, silver, or white hair. It helps to intensely moisturize all the way down to the cuticle restoring hydration and health to your hair. It’s also perfect for anyone who has severely dry or chemically processed hair. It makes a great deep leave-in conditioner, thanks to aloe vera, manuka honey, jojoba seed oil, and bergamot oil. You can use it straight after your shampoo—just towel dry your hair and apply the mask directly to your hair, leave it in for 5-10 minutes, and rinse thoroughly with water. Its made with natural and organic ingredients and is cruelty-free.
Bosley has a full line of products that focus on building strength and maintaining the health and thickness of both scalp and hair. They have over 45 years of experience, and their products are vegan, cruelty-free, paraben, sulfate, and gluten-free.
This shampoo is the first part of a 3-step, color-safe solution designed to create healthy hair from the inside out. It’s formulated specifically for those who want to take action against thinning hair. It cleanses and removes toxins from the hair and scalp skin while cleansing your hair of product build-up and pollution. It contains panthenol, which helps strengthen your hair, and sea kelp to help prevent unnecessary breakage.
Step two is Bos-Defense volumizing conditioner, which should be applied directly after shampooing. You should apply to clean, wet hair and then distribute it evenly and leave it on for up to five minutes and then rinse. It’s a weightless daily conditioner containing DHT inhibitors that leaves your hair appearing fuller, nourished, with more volume. Biotin is also included, which helps strengthen the hair follicle; so is saw palmetto, which helps inhibit the action of DHT and may help with hair shedding.
Step three is the Bosley Bos-Defense Thickening Treatment. This is a foaming solution for thinning prevention, hair regrowth, and visible hair loss. This alcohol-free intensive treatment helps to rejuvenate the scalp and helps to support the growth of stronger, healthier hair. It may even assist in the thickening of hair and help to recondition fragile hair, providing instant volume. This too contains panthenol to help strengthen your existing hair. It also has pumpkin seed extract which is a natural DHT blocking ingredient rich in vitamins and minerals to help promote that healthy hair growth, and it has apple stem cell extract which helps to promote hair growth by stimulating dormant follicles.
Soapbox is another great brand, and the best thing about a purchase from Soapbox is that an everyday purchase with them means a soap bar donation is made to help someone in need. To date, they have donated over 20 million soap bars. Each product contains its own code so that you can find out the exact project your purchase went to.
I chose to try this shampoo as it’s simply free from everything: sulfates, parabens, and silicone. It’s a great color-safe vegan shampoo. The scent is actually amazing—it’s a sweet and nutty coconut scent. This product locks in the moisture and repairs dry, damaged hair. It contains vitamins E, K, and fatty acids which come from coconut oil, to protect and bind the hair to proteins.
This anti-frizz serum helps to achieve a sleek look by taming frizz and keeping flyaway hair at bay. It pairs the repairing nature of argan oil with the nourishment of shea butter, sunflower, rice bran, rosemary extracts, and vitamin E to create a nutrient-rich serum. It helps to create a perfectly managed, polished look for your hair. This should be sprayed lightly onto damp hair, or into your hands and then distributed evenly throughout your hair, then comb through and style as usual.
I specifically tried and chose to share the above products because I wanted to demonstrate to you all that no matter what challenges you may be facing with your hair—frizz, thinning, dryness, or brassiness—there is a product out there for you. Hopefully, some of the products and brands I’ve highlighted will help you achieve that beautiful full head of hair you have always dreamed of.
